How do I install the extension?
The Chrome Extension is currently in preview. Contact us for access. Once installed, it works automatically on supported AI platforms with no configuration needed.
Does it work with Edge and Brave?
Yes. The extension is compatible with all Chromium-based browsers including Google Chrome 96+, Microsoft Edge, and Brave Browser.
What is the character limit per message?
Each message can contain up to 3,998 characters. For longer texts, use the web application or API which support unlimited text length.
Is the extension free?
The extension uses your cloak.business account tokens. The Free plan (200 tokens/month) works with the extension. No separate subscription needed.
How is this different from enterprise DLP browser tools that block AI uploads?
Enterprise DLP tools take a surveillance approach: they intercept clipboard actions, form submissions, file uploads, screenshots, and USB transfers across the entire endpoint, then block content that matches policy rules. cloak.business works differently: instead of blocking, it anonymizes PII with reversible AES-256-GCM encryption before the message is sent. The AI receives anonymized tokens, not your data. When the AI responds using those tokens, the extension decrypts them back in your browser. Your workflow continues uninterrupted — nothing is blocked, nothing is lost.
Does the extension monitor employee activity or report to IT?
No. The cloak.business Chrome Extension does not log, report, or transmit employee activity to cloak.business servers or to your IT department. It only processes text in the AI chat input field at the moment of sending — no clipboard surveillance, no screenshot monitoring, no USB or printing tracking. Anonymization is a privacy-enhancing tool for employees, not an employer surveillance mechanism. This design avoids the legal complexities of employee monitoring in the EU.
Can AI responses be de-anonymized automatically?
Yes — this is a core differentiator. When you use the Encrypt method, the extension sends AES-256-GCM encrypted tokens to the AI instead of real PII. When the AI responds using those tokens, the extension automatically decrypts them and displays the original values highlighted in green. You can toggle between the encrypted and decrypted view at any time. Encryption keys are derived client-side from your password using PBKDF2 (100,000 iterations) — they never leave your device.
