Presets & Entity Configuration

Last Updated: 2026-02-09

Presets are pre-configured sets of entity types tailored for specific countries, regions, or industries. They help you focus detection on the PII types most relevant to your documents.

What Are Presets#

A preset is a named configuration that enables a specific set of entity types for detection. Instead of manually selecting which entity types to detect, you choose a preset that matches your use case.

Why use presets:

  • Faster setup -- one click instead of selecting dozens of entity types.
  • Fewer false positives -- only relevant entity types are active, reducing noise.
  • Country compliance -- country presets include all PII types regulated in that jurisdiction.

Country Presets#

cloak.business includes 131 country-specific presets covering 75+ countries. Each country preset enables the entity types relevant to that country's personal data formats.

Examples#

PresetEntities Enabled
GermanyDE_ID_CARD, DE_PASSPORT, DE_DRIVER_LICENSE, DE_TAX_ID, DE_SVN, DE_STEUERNUMMER, DE_IBAN, DE_BIC, DE_KVNR, DE_RVNR, PHONE_NUMBER, EMAIL_ADDRESS, PERSON, LOCATION, and more
United StatesUS_SSN, US_PASSPORT, US_DRIVER_LICENSE, US_ITIN, US_EIN, US_BANK_NUMBER, US_ROUTING_NUMBER, CREDIT_CARD, PHONE_NUMBER, EMAIL_ADDRESS, PERSON, LOCATION, and more
United KingdomUK_NINO, UK_PASSPORT, UK_UTR, UK_NHS, UK_SORT_CODE, IBAN_CODE, PHONE_NUMBER, EMAIL_ADDRESS, PERSON, LOCATION, and more

Each country preset automatically includes global entity types (email, phone, credit card, etc.) in addition to country-specific types.

Regional Presets#

Regional presets combine entity types from multiple countries in a geographic area.

PresetCoverage
European UnionAll EU member state entity types combined
DACHGermany, Austria, Switzerland

Regional presets are useful when processing documents from multiple countries within the same region.

Custom Entity Selection#

If no preset matches your needs exactly, you can build a custom configuration:

  1. Start with no preset or begin from an existing preset.
  2. Open the entity type selector.
  3. Enable or disable individual entity types by checking/unchecking them.
  4. Entity types are organized by group for easy navigation.
  5. Use the search field to find specific entity types by name.

Confidence Threshold#

Adjust the minimum confidence score required for a detection to be included in the results.

ThresholdEffect
Low (0.3)More detections, but also more false positives. Good for thorough review.
Medium (0.5)Balanced between coverage and accuracy. Default setting.
High (0.85)Fewer detections, but very high precision. Good for automated pipelines.

Raising the threshold reduces false positives but may miss some valid detections. Lowering it catches more PII but requires more manual review.

Saving Preferences#

Save your entity configuration for reuse across sessions:

  1. Configure your desired entity types and confidence threshold.
  2. Your preferences are saved automatically to your account.
  3. The next time you log in, your last configuration is restored.
  4. Switch between configurations by selecting a different preset or adjusting individual entity types.
