What Are Tokens#
Tokens represent the amount of text you can process on cloak.business. One token is approximately equal to one character of text. When you analyze text, the character count of your input is deducted from your token balance.
Free Tier#
Every account includes a free tier:
- 200 tokens per billing cycle.
- Approximately 15-18 pages of standard text.
- No credit card required.
- Access to all features: text analysis, image anonymization, all anonymization methods, all presets.
The free tier is designed for personal use, evaluation, and small-scale processing.
How Tokens Are Counted#
Token usage is straightforward:
- You submit text for analysis.
- The system counts the characters in your input.
- That character count is deducted from your token balance.
- Anonymization of already-analyzed text does not consume additional tokens.
Examples#
| Input | Characters | Tokens Used |
|---|---|---|
| A short paragraph (500 characters) | 500 | 500 |
| One page of text (~2,000 characters) | 2,000 | 2,000 |
| A 10-page document (~20,000 characters) | 20,000 | 20,000 |
Token Costs by Feature#
| Feature | Token Cost |
|---|---|
| Text analysis | 1 token per character of input text |
| File analysis | 1 token per character of extracted text |
| Batch analysis | 1 token per character across all files |
| Image analysis | Fixed cost per image (varies by plan) |
| Anonymization | No additional cost (included with analysis) |
| Deanonymization | No additional cost |
Checking Your Balance#
You can check your token balance in two places:
- Dashboard -- your current balance and usage are displayed on the main dashboard after logging in.
- Account settings -- detailed usage history and remaining balance are available in your account settings.
The balance updates in real time after each analysis operation.
Billing Cycles#
- Tokens reset at the start of each billing cycle.
- Unused tokens do not roll over to the next cycle.
- Your billing cycle starts on the date you created your account (or upgraded your plan).
Upgrading Your Plan#
If you need more tokens, upgrade to a higher plan:
- Pro -- higher token allowance for regular use.
- Business -- enterprise-level token allowance for teams and high-volume processing.
Visit your account settings to view available plans and upgrade. Plan changes take effect immediately, and your token balance is updated accordingly.
Tips for Efficient Token Usage#
-
Analyze only what you need. Trim unnecessary text (headers, footers, boilerplate) before submitting for analysis.
-
Use presets to focus detection. Selecting a country or industry preset reduces processing to relevant entity types, which makes analysis faster (though token cost is based on character count, not entity types).
-
Use batch processing wisely. Group similar documents together and apply the same preset to all of them.
-
Check results before re-analyzing. If you need to change anonymization settings, you can modify the anonymization method without re-analyzing (and without consuming additional tokens).
-
Monitor your balance. Keep an eye on your remaining tokens via the dashboard to avoid running out mid-project.
